A
NameServer is a program that converts the name of a computer on the
InterNet to a special numerical address that computers need to talk to one another. This is analogous to a phone book, where you have to find the phone number for "Bob Smith" before you can call him; the telephone switches no nothing about the names of companies or people, but they understand phone numbers pretty well.
A common
NameServer program is BIND.
SystemAdministrators? who use BIND can use a program written by
KirkStrauser, called
ViDns, to edit their
ZoneFiles?.
